On March 25, 2025, some members of Hālau I Ka Leo Ola O Nā Mamo and Vivo Flamenco Carlota Santana met together at Haleʻōlelo on the UH Hilo campus for a cultural exchange. Some of the important content that was shared between the two groups included intergenerational transference of knowledge, specifically traditional dance. We also talked about the use of dance as a form of language transmission and the relationships between musician and dancer, teacher and student, and familial and non-familial ties in carrying on traditions. After our workshop, we hosted lunch and enjoyed the camaraderie between our groups.

Dancers from Hālau I Ka Leo Ola O Na Mamo and Vivo Flamenco Carlota Santana gather in the piko area of Haleʻōlelo.
